THE TRIAL OF JOSEPH KABILA KABANGE AT THE KINSHASA MILITARY COURT AND THE ESTABLISHMENT OF REPUBLICAN ORDER IN THE DRC
July 30, 2025
The Congolese parliament, sitting in an extraordinary session, lifted the immunity of former Congolese President Joseph KABILA KABANGE, suspected of being the moral authority of the M23 rebel movement, which is waging a civil war against the Congolese state. The movement is accused of violating the Nairobi and Lusaka agreements that led to the end of the war in 2012, when the same rebel faction conquered the city of Goma and the Congolese territories in the east of the country.
A trial against former Congolese President Joseph KABILA KABANGE has opened before the Kinshasa military court. The former Congolese president is accused of supporting the March 23 Movement, a rebel movement, and of taking part in an insurrection and attempted overthrow of power. He is being tried in contempt because in April and May 2025 he visited the cities of Goma and Bukavu and conducted consultations with a view to ensuring the resolution of the security crisis unfolding in the eastern part of the country. Aware of the gravity of the situation and the problematic political conflicts that poison the situation, he focused on resolving the dispute through immediate negotiations by preventing internal conflicts in order to put an end to community clashes. He is in exile because the current government led by Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo is hostile to a free man whose independence of mind could harm the regime and compromise government projects and the exercise of power. He is implicated in most cases in judicial scandals. He is found guilty of corruption and poor governance, financial embezzlement, having created shell companies, having received skins from vanity, as well as the Congo Holdope trial... In truth, he allegedly enriched himself illegally because he allegedly stole $20 billion from the Congolese people. The Congolese justice system has launched proceedings against him. An arrest warrant was issued against him at the initiative of President Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo.
